POSTPARTUM PROGRAMME

For women who want to make sure that their body is recovering well after their pregnancy and the childbirth, and who want to go back to exercising safely.

The Mummy MOT post natal programme at Benji Physio Dunfermline

The first part of the of the programme is a 1-2-1 session with Lynsey who will run a FULL Mummy MOT assessment. During that first appointment you will be able to talk through your pregnancy and birth experience. Lyndsey will then run a series of assessments to check mobility and muscle strength of the back, hip, and pelvic, look for any tummy muscle separation and ensure that the scar is healing as expected after a caesarean. An external/internal vaginal assessment will screen for bladder, bowel or sexual dysfunction, assess any areas of scar tissue/pain from an episiotomy, vaginal tear or C-section.

If this something you are thinking of doing, Lyndsey can offer a Post-Partum Return to Impact Assessment. during this one to one session, Lyndsey will assess your ability to return to the desired sports and provide the right exercise programme to allow to do so in a given timescale. About Lyndsey

I am HCPC registered physiotherapist who obtained my master in physiotherapy in Edinburgh in 2005.

I specialised in Women’s Health care ten years ago and became Women’s Health Lead Physiotherapist for NHS Fife until 2023 when I started to work at Benji Physio full-time.

Before becoming a pregnancy and post-partum specialist, I worked as a sports physio and gained a lot of experience in developing exercise programmes for athletes competing in a wide range of sports.

I am a mother of two sons who are almost as mad about football as I am. And when I do not find myself on the side of a pitch supporting either my sons or Hearts FC, you will find me competing in Kuk-Sool, a Korean martial art.

What will our Post-partum programme help prevent?

A pregnancy and giving birth are major events on your body. Some would call it traumatic. It is very important to see someone who knows about the women’s body and can assess how these events have affected you.

Our programme has been put in place to recognise early-on any issues. Seeing Lyndsey during your first session will reassure you that everything is right and you will gain a lot more confidence in your post pregnancy body .

Our fitness exercises will help you to strengthen your hip and pelvis floor muscles to fix these issues and minimise the risk of developing more problems further down the line.

What are the main issues we see after childbirth?

Back, hip and pelvis girdle pain

Split stomach muscle (Diastasis Recti)

Bladder incontinence

Bowel incontinence

Constipation

Pelvis Organ Prolapse

Post-natal depression
